Sorry Charlie. It’s just not working out.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is on a seat so hot right now, it could fry bacon. After a respectable start to his Irish tenure in 2005, the powers-that-be in South Bend couldn’t wait to throw some money at the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator. With a 5-2 record in his first season, Notre Dame handed Weis a 10-year extension worth an estimated $30-40 million.
His first two seasons at Notre Dame went fairly …

If you think that is just a salacious headline to attract readers to this blog, think again. It is a real possibility and it wouldn’t take a seismic shift in the college football landscape to make it happen.
Historically, the components involved in the BCS (Coaches’ Poll, Harris Poll, computers) have conspired to keep out a team that did not win its conference championship.
Only twice have teams not won their conference championship and played in the BCS title game (Nebraska in …

Looks like that $30,000 fine issued to Urban Meyer by the SEC just got a little easier to take. As it turns out, Meyer, who once resided in Grainger, Ind., is owed $60 by General Electric.
A search of Indianaunclaimed.com reveals that Meyer isn’t the only college coach that is owed some money.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has $40 coming his way from Terminex, a termite extermination service.
But the big winner in the unclaimed property lottery is former Notre Dame coach, …

Another week, another huge upset in college football. So many Top-10 teams have been beaten by unranked teams this season that last week’s loss by Iowa doesn’t seem as surprising. Things seem to be shaken up nearly every week, but the top three (Florida, Texas, Alabama) remain unbeaten. All three are heavy favorites on the road this week. Is this the week one of the three pillars of the polls falls during the regular season? Let us find out in …

Over 24 hours after three of his players were arrested on attempted robbery charges, there has been no press conference from Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin about the status of Nu’Keese Richardson, Janzen Jackson and Mike Edwards.
All we know is that they won’t be traveling to Oxford to play in the Ole Miss game on Saturday. That information came from Tennessee spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter, not from Kiffin.
You’ll remember a time when Kiffin took a jab at Florida coach Urban Meyer …

This stuff writes itself.
Just one day after Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin was boasting about having zero arrests in his first 11 months on the job, three Volunteers freshmen are arrested on charges of attempted armed robbery.
One of the players facing charges is receiver Nu’Keese Richardson, whom Kiffin so famously bragged about taking from under Florida coach Urban Meyer’s nose on signing day.
The two other players arrested, safety Janzen Jackson and defensive back Mike Edwards, were part of coach Kiffin’s top …

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier’s tenure with the Gamecocks has been a lot like the candy Sour Patch Kids. They both start out sweet and then turn sour toward the end.
Spurrier seems to give South Carolina fans a reason to be optimistic every year, but he has dealt with late-season downturns in his first five seasons in Columbia.
The Gamecocks closed the season with two straight losses in 2005, Spurrier’s first season at South Carolina. Two years later, the Gamecocks …

Last week went pretty much according to plan. Oh, except for the massive beatdown issued to USC by the Oregon Ducks. That game was a remarkable oddysey into the bizarro-world that is the 2009 Pac-10. Seriously, USC will not be in the BCS title game this season, and now its hopes for a Rose Bowl berth are all but wilted. Halloween also provided some controversy with Georgia running back Washaun Ealey getting an eyeful of hand (allegedly) from Florida linebacker …

Longtime Urban Meyer assistant Dan Mullen is off to a decent start in his first year as Mississippi State head coach.
Granted, the Bulldogs have a losing record (4-5) at this point, but decent is a subjective term when it comes to MSU football.

It is going to be tough to top Week 8 of college football. Three Top-10 teams provided most of the drama, and their games turned out in three very different ways. No. 1 Alabama need to block a last-second field goal to beat unranked Tennessee. No. 7 Iowa had to score a touchdown on the last play of the game to beat Michigan State, and No. 8 Miami lost to Clemson on a touchdown in overtime. It made for some …
