It is going to be tough to top Week 8 of college football. Three Top-10 teams provided most of the drama, and their games turned out in three very different ways. What a week for Tennessee! Volunteers coach Lane Kiffin coached the team in the ugly orange uniforms to yet another moral victory, beating Alabama 10-12 when the Tide’s gargantuan defensive tackle Terrence Cody (6-foot-5, 354 pounds) busted through for his second blocked kick of the game on a potential game-winning field goal by Tennessee kicker Daniel Lincoln.
Who needs actual wins when you can get moral victories over the top two BCS teams?

Former Gator Percy Harvin returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown against the Steelers, pulling the Vikings within three points late in the fourth quarter.
Minnesota could not pull any closer, though, and lost the game on a Brett Favre interception with a minute left to play.
Despite the loss, Harvin’s performance was a bright spot. He had 216 total yards, including 167 kickoff return yards.

Week 7 was a cornucopia of upsets and near upsets. Teams like Ohio State and Virginia Tech saw their national title hopes drive off a cliff and explode in a fireball on the rocks below. Florida and USC held on to win despite some tense final moments, and Big 12 teams such as Nebraska and Kansas were totally exposed. Oklahoma fell to Texas as Sam Bradford fell on his shoulder again. Before Alabama gets the chance to deny Tennessee any points on Saturday, the Vols have already denied. I think people generally look forward to Tennessee playing on the road because they don’t have to have the Vol orange burned into their televisions for the rest of the day. Unless Tennessee is playing LSU, then its the worst of both worlds.

The Old Ball Coach. The Head Ball coach. Those are a few nicknames for South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier. At least ones that I am allowed write on this blog. But on Saturday against Alabama, Spurrier brushed aside his trademark visor for (gasp) a regular hat. Was this some sort of new fashion statement Spurrier is trying to make?

Things went pretty much according to plan in Week 6, with the only upset being Arkansas beating No. 17 Auburn. Arkansas gets another chance to beat a Top 25 team this week, but getting past No. 1 Florida should prove to be tougher. The Red River Rivalry (formerly the Red River Shootout) between Oklahoma and Texas should be a good game.
