Caption Planet: Weis decision?

Sorry Charlie. It’s just not working out.

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is on a seat so hot right now, it could fry bacon. After a respectable start to his Irish tenure in 2005, the powers-that-be in South Bend couldn’t wait to throw some money at the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator. With a 5-2 record in his first season, Notre Dame handed Weis a 10-year extension worth an estimated $30-40 million.

His first two seasons at Notre Dame went fairly well with the Irish reaching (but losing) two straight BCS games. The following two years, Notre Dame went 3-9 and 7-6 respectively. This season started off fairly well, but the Irish  are now 6-4 after losing two straight including a loss against Navy. Before the Weis era, Notre Dame had beaten the Midshipmen a record 43 straight times. Now Weis has lost two of three against Navy since 2007.

Now other than that 3-9 season, Notre Dame is not doing too bad compared to the average school … but Notre Dame is no average school.

The Irish have fielded the most national championship teams in history (11). Seven Notre Dame players have won the Heisman Trophy. The school has produced more All-Americans than any other program (96).

This is a fan base that expects greatness, and they’re not getting it with Weis.

So in honor of the Irish coaching situation and all of the rumors flying around about potential replacements, this week’s Caption Planet features a photo of a very uncomfortable-looking Charlie Weis during Notre Dame’s latest loss against Pitt.

On to this week’s winners.

This week’s top caption goes to Scott Kamien. “Ahhh, the beaches, the golf courses, the championships.  Please Lord. When I open my eyes, let me be back at Florida.”

Honorable mentions

“I can’t believe I let Lou talk me into this.” Adam Stern

“A Prius? As the getaway car? And we lost to those Einsteins?” John Vega

“Restrain yourself Steve. Don’t do it. If I throw it, ESPN will play it over and over. Don’t!” John C

“I remember when I was the only Heisman winner at Florida. AHHH, those were the days.”  Frank W

“Another three or four years? Why did I say that?” willgetin

Thanks to everybody that contributed last week. Send in your ideas this week for the Charlie Weis photo. Add your entries as comments below or e-mail them to adam.west@gvillesun.com. Also if you have any funny photos you would like to see appear in Caption Planet, send those my way as well.

Is that what I think it is? By gosh it looks like a box of Krispy Kremes! I can’t wait for the game to be over so I can go grab a triple cheeseburger with a pound of bacon piled on top. Why didn’t I go into the restaurant business?

If I only had the Patriots’ roster, then our schematic advantage would be working!

Okay. Your turn. Spin the wheel…next play call goes to section 101, seat 14. Congratulations!

If I go for 4th and 2 at my own 28 and fail, would they debate calling me a genius? Why, they’d probably want to fire me! Not fair, I say.

If they would quit advertising pizza and burgers on the jumbotron, I could actually focus on the next play. Hey #6, can you make a burger run for me??

Well, at least if I’m un-employed, I might buy less food.
