Caldwell proving clutch for Bengals
by Adam West

Bengals wide receiver Andre Caldwell scores the game-winning touchdown in front of Baltimore Ravens cornerback Chris Carr on Sunday (The Associated Press).
The Cincinnati Bengals keep finding ways to win in late-game situations, and former Gator wide receiver Andre Caldwell has been instrumental in two of the wins.
Caldwell caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson Palmer with 22 seconds left to cap an 80-yard drive to beat the Ravens 17-14 on Sunday in Baltimore.
Two weeks before, Caldwell caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Palmer with 14 seconds left to beat the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers 23-20.
The second-year player out of Florida has clearly earned the trust of Palmer, who has turned to his slot receiver in pivotal situations twice this season. Caldwell only has 181 receiving yards on 18 catches through the first five games, but he is making plays when it counts for a quarterback who likes getting the ball to his slot receiver. T.J. Houshmandzadeh thrived as Palmer’s slot guy before signing with the Seattle Seahawks prior to the 2009 season.
The Bengals (4-1) sit atop the AFC North after winning four straight, including those wins over two division rivals in the closing seconds.

Did someone say… that our system does not work for wideouts in the NFL?

The last Three Florida Wide-outs to come out of Gainesville have made they’re mark in the NFL. Percy, Bubba, and Louis. Believe me there will be many more to come the way Urban’s recruiting. For all the people that have critizied Florida and say “oh its the system that they play in” well there doing a good job of shutting them up.

Florida has ALWAYS produced great wide receivers. But this year it sure looks as if we are dry at the position. Since the Troy game, UF has looked more like the Florida Cornhuskers. I really miss seeing Florida getting explosive. I undesrtand that the game against LSU had to be played the way UF played. It was brilliant in my opinion. But I cannot take any more games like this…it is killing me. Compared to last year, we are a shadow of what we were at this point in the season. Are we going to beat everybody else by ten points (including FSU) when we could be burying the opposition 56-0 like we did to South Carolina last year? I hope not. I expect the Gators to explode in offense soon, to start getting ready for the SEC Championship. Go Gators!!!
