Harvin off to hot start with Vikes
by Adam West
It may only be two weeks into the NFL season, but rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin is already making a big impact for the Minnesota Vikings.
Harvin has caught a touchdown from new Vikings quarterback Brett Favre in each of Minnesota’s two wins to open the season. The former Florida standout had 41 receiving yards on five catches with a score in the Vikings’ 27-13 victory over the Detroit Lions. He also returned three kicks for 79 yards and had two carries for 14 yards in the win.
The week before against the Cleveland Browns, Harvin caught three passes for 36 yards and a score, ran the ball twice for 22 yards and returned three kickoffs for 99 yards. Favre was so excited about connecting with the rookie first-round pick in the opener that he tackled him in the end zone after Harvin’s first NFL touchdown.
At this rate, Harvin will have plenty of touchdowns this year. The rookie is tied for second place behind Marques Colston of the Saints (3 ) for NFL leaders in touchdowns with a dozen other players (including such big names as Tony Gonzalez, Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald). It may be too early to start putting Harvin in the same sentence as some of these other guys, but with a legendary quarterback like Brett Favre in his corner, you never know what kind of numbers he could put up in his rookie season.
On the special teams side Harvin is third in the NFL in average yards per kickoff return with 29.7 yards per return behind only San Diego’s Darren Sproles (33.1) and Green Bay’s Jordy Nelson (31.0).

Youre right, it’s way to early to be looking at his numbers yet.

….but it’s nice to see him get a solid start…he’s one of my favorite players (of all times) to watch play football.

Obviously he is an outstanding individual talent. More importantly, he on a team that also has Adrian Peterson and Brett Favre in the backfield. Even if he only scores at the rate of twice for every three games until season’s end, those numbers will be enough not only to garner him rookie of the year considerations but also make his team a threat to win it all. Go Gator!

I truly believe he was “The Steal of The Draft”!!!
